Giving Back During the Christmas Season

Kids from the MAC went to 2 different nursing homes during the month of December to help the senior adults to have a good time and to give a little Christmas love.  At both locations we played bingo withe the residents and had some fun prizes for them to take home.  The kids were given some simple instructions:  be nice, help the residents with playing the games and do not take anything for yourself.  Our goal with our Giving Back Projects is to teach children the joy of giving. The kids are starting to understand this giving back idea, but some of the residents did not understand the process.  One lady, at the Covington Ladies Home, just cried because of how blessed she was by one of our boys.  She wanted so bad to send him home with a doll, but I explained the concept of what we are teaching. I then told her that he loved hugs (he looked at me with a questioning face), but he proceeded to give her a big hug and had a big smile at the end.

The Doll Lady

Many people know Ms. Beach as the Doll Lady in her community.  She has given thousands upon thousands of dolls to children in need all over the world.  South Side Baptist Church and the Moore Activity Center has been a recipient of this ministry for many years.  Ms. Beach is 94 years old this year.  She apologized to me that she did not have more dolls to share with us.  She truly is an amazing woman that simply wants God to use her for as long as He can.   I pray that I can be giving like she is when I am 94 years old (Amy Wilhelmus).

Thanksgiving and Christmas Give Aways

The Thanksgiving and Christmas Give Aways went great.  Individuals, families, churches, groups and organizations stepped up to help us meet needs in Covington.  I would like to thank everyone that took part in helping us to meet these needs.  I love to watch how God pulls His people together to do His work.

Hiding Place and Youth Night

Tonight was our first night for Hiding Place and Youth Night for the 2010-2011 school year.  There were 16 children and 7 youth in attendance.  It was a great night.

Both groups could use more volunteers to help with ministering to the children and youth. If you are interested please call the MAC

Back to School Day

Back to School Day was a great success. We were able to provide shoes, socks, school supplies and haircuts to 199 children and youth.  There were plenty of volunteers to minister to those in attendance.  It was a wonderful day.

Thanks to everyone who gave.

Fun in the Son

We have completed 3 Fun in the Sons this summer.  We have 2 more scheduled for August.  We have reached over 100 children so far.  Each of these kids have enjoyed a time of singing, Bible stories, crafts, games, snacks and prizes.  Each of these kids clearly know they are loved by a wonderful and amazing God.
I would like to thank the Georgia Mission Team and Union Baptist Church Youth Group for volunteering at the previous Fun in the Sons.  You all did a wonderful job sharing God's Love with the children.

Happenings @ the MAC

This has been a great week so far.  Monday I got to take 8 kids/youth and 1 extra adult for a Kicks for Kids event.  We were invited to take part in their banquet for their golf fundraiser.  The kids had a great time!  They had a great meal, got to meet the UK head coach, meet some Bengals cheerleaders and get one of their autographs, and so much more.  Tuesday night we had "simply dinner" at the MAC.  This ministry continues to grow. We had a total of 83 show up for dinner last night.  Martha Pike provided a great main course for the night.  Everyone had a great time.

Simply Dinner

I am very excited about one of our new ministries we started this summer.  "Simply Dinner" provides a free meal on Tuesday Nights in June from 6-7pm to anyone who shows up.  In the past two weeks we have provided 135 dinners to 102 different people.  Dinner and fellowship (and an air conditioned building) is all that is provided, but people are having a great time.  Pray that as we reach out to the community through this ministry that lives might be changed not only in the here and now, but for eternity.

Summer @ the MAC

It has been a very full week at the MAC.
Monday we had "Children's Night"
Tuesday we had "Simply Dinner"
Wednesday we had "Youth Night"
Friday night we had an "Air Conditioned Picnic"
Sunday we had our first "Giving Back Project" (we passed out ice cream at Krogers and helped to clean up their parking lot).
It was a busy, but fun, week.  Just this week we reached over 150 individuals.

This week we have:
Tuesday - "Simply Dinner" from 6-7pm
Thursday - "Giving Back Project" from 6:30-7:30pm.
If you are free come out and join us.
I also get to speak with Highland Heights Baptist VBS on Monday and do a mission project with Burlington Baptist VBX on Wednesday.  Should be a great week.
Please keep me and all the volunteers in your prayers.  Pray that we have opportunities to share Christ.

Prayer Request

Just received a bid from a company for the work that we need to have done on our boxed gutters.  The bid was $12, 592.50.  I would like for you to join me in praying that we receive this money that is needed or we find a company that is able to do the same work at a better price (and then for that money to be provided).  God has blessed us with a great building to do ministry in.  I know that I serve a God that is in the business of providing for our needs.  I am trusting Him to provide for this need. Please join me in lifting this need up to the Lord and trusting Him to provide.
Thanks,
Amy Wilhelmus

Wednesday Night Programs

On Wednesday nights we have Hiding Place (Kdg-5th graders) and Youth Night (Middle School and High School Students).  The center was really moving last night.  We had 43 kids show up for Hiding Place and 12 youth show up for Youth Night.  Everyone had a great time playing, singing, making crafts, eating snacks, and most importantly learning about God's Word.

I am very blessed to have a wonderful group of volunteers that are here to not only tell about God's Love, but to show His Amazing Love to those who attend.

Pray for the children, youth, and adults that attend and volunteer at the programs.  Prayer changes lives and that is what we are seeking to do here at the MAC.

Beach Party

On Friday, April 23rd, we had a Beach Party at the MAC.  There were approximately 70 people in attendance.  I sadly missed out on the event, but I was told the place was hopping.  There was free hot dogs, chips, ice cream and drinks.  There were crafts to be made, games to be played and prizes to be won.  I want to encourage you to not miss out on our monthly community event.  There is always fun to be had.

Thanks to everyone who helped pull this night off in my absence.

Easter Party

We had a great time at our community wide Easter Party.  There were about 80 kids and 40 adults that came to participate in the event.  The kids and the parents all seemed to have a great time.  We had a coloring contest, crafts, egg hunts, games, door prizes, and most importantly the telling of the Easter story.  Union Baptist Youth Group and members from South Side Baptist showed up to pull the event off. There were individuals and churches that gave to the event to provide the needed supplies.  Thanks to everyone who helped make the day a blessing for all involved.

Hiding Place and Youth Night Update

More children and youth continue to join us for Hiding Place and Youth Night on Wednesday nights from 6-7:30pm.  Last night we had 35 kids for Hiding Place and 12 for Youth Night.  We are reaching these children and youth at a very important point in their lives.  Please pray for the children and youth that are attending - that they will not only see Christ, but that they will be drawn to Him.  Pray for the current volunteers - that we will display Christ in a way that is worthy of Him.  Pray for more people to have a desire to reach out to these children and youth - we are in need of additional workers to help.

Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

Eliza Broadus Offering

Found out today that we received money to help us with our programming from the Eliza Broadus Offering (Kentucky Woman's Missionary Union State Missions Offering).  To any that gave to that offering, let me thank you.  I love when people come together to do God's work.  That is one reason I love Southern Baptists, they come together to do missions all over the world.  I love to watch God use us to do His work.  Once again, thank you to all who gave and to all who believe in the work that is being done in Covington, KY.

Hawaiian Luau

We had a great turn out for our Hawaiian Luau at the MAC last night.  I asked a couple of the people how many people they thought showed up and both of them simply said, "A lot".  We easily had over 30 kids and around 30 adults.  The place was buzzing with energy - just ask any adult that was there.   We had a Hawaiian meal consisting of:  Kalua Pig, Tropical Fruit Kabobs, Rice, and a Hawaiian Punch.  The food looked like a lot when we started, but it disappeared quickly.  The night also consisted of a "Hula" Hoop contest for 4 of the kids, a Hula contest for some of the men that showed up and a Limbo contest for anyone interested.  It was a great night.

Pizza Party

At Hiding Place last night we got to have a pizza party for the kids.  Kicks for Kids had us draw some pictures for them before Christmas so that they could choose one to use for their Christmas Cards.  Nike won the contest and for that received a signed Bengals football.  Since all the kids made pictures Kicks for Kids provided pizza for the night. The kids ate all they wanted, and they loved that.  (We had enough pizza that even our Youth Night group got to participate.)  Thanks Kicks for Kids for helping our kids have a great night.
