The Moore Activity Center is designed to show Love to inner-city individuals and families by developing the whole person (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) through teaching, nurturing, mentoring, tutoring, and lay counseling based on Christian values.
We have a variety of activities that we do to help meet this mission. Please know that you are invited to join us on our mission. You may want to come and volunteer with us on a weekly basis. A group may want to come for a mission trip. You may want to help provide financially to help meet our needs. You may want to pray for us. Anything you are willing to do will be greatly appreciated. If you have questions feel free to call Amy at 859-261-2300.

Want to help?
If you live near by...
On coupons.com there is a coupon for 50 cents off 2 Betty Crocker Potatoes and one for 50 or 75 cents off of Campbell’s 100 % Natural Soup and a 75 cents coupon for Hamburger Helper. If some of you could print those it would be great. You can print 2 off each computer. When you want to print the second one you will have to go to the end of the coupons. Could you print these for the MAC?
There is a sale at Kroger this week. If you buy 5 selected General Mills products you get $5.00 coupon back for next order. They say they will near free if I use the $5.00 coupon over and over. I would be glad to shop for them, but need the coupons. The sale is through Sunday (October 21st) so I need coupons by early Sunday at the latest. You, of course, are welcome to help us out by buying some, but I would gladly use your coupons if you would rather I do the work.
We are getting ready for our Annual Thanksgiving and Christmas Giveaways and this would help greatly! We need at 300 boxes of potatoes at the very least. The other items will be used in our food pantry. Thank you for helping out.
The more coupons the better, so tell your friends and bring in more if you can.
Thanks,
Amy Wilhelmus
MAC Director

Need Help
We are looking for more people to help with our tutoring program. It is held on Mondays from 6-7:30pm. You would have the same child scheduled to be with you each week. It is a great way to help them with their education. It is a great way to mentor a child. It is a great way to make a difference!

Back to School Day Giveaway 2012
At 1pm today everything will be done with the Back to School Day Giveaway. I have one mom coming to pick up the kids shoes that we needed to get because we did not have ones that fit.
We had 172 kids and youth show up to get their new gym shoes, socks, and school supplies. They also had the option of getting a haircut.
The event went GREAT! We had 39 volunteers overall on Saturday. Three were providing water outside and some inside. Two greeters letting people in. Three were some at our sign in table. Eight gave out school supplies. One did the socks. Thirteen dealt with the shoes. Four were helping the hairstylist with sign-in and cleanup. There were 3 hairstylist (only place we really needed more). Even had one volunteer up in the attic building shelves for any extras we can use later. Then I got to just run around and talk to people and answer questions when needed:-)
Thanks to all the volunteers who came out to help make this day a success.
Thanks to everyone who gave money and needed items to provide for these families. You blessed a lot of lives on Saturday and I want you to know it is very much appreciated.

Purciville Baptist Church Mission Team from Virginia
There were 14 members of Purciville Baptist Church that arrived on Thursday, June 21st, to minister with us here at the MAC. They truly hit the ground running. Today is their last full day of ministry. They have provided the resources and the man power to put new flooring throughout the first level of the building (they laid all the tile themselves and a carpet crew is coming in on Friday to put carpet in the back room), new roof on a portion of our building (they provided materials and a member at South Side Baptist came in with his roofing crew to do the labor), removal of chimney and patchwork on roof, wall repairs (from water damage) throughout the building, junk removal and so much more. They led the Sunday morning worship service at South Side Baptist. A few of them helped out in the mornings at South Side Child Care - they were able to go in the classes and minister to the children and teachers. They also did 2 Fun in the Sons - one from 1-2:30pm with the School Age Child Care Group from South Side and another from 6:30-8 for the community at 14th and Banklick. It has been an amazing week to watch them work. I praise God for connecting them with us to do service.
Union Baptist Youth Group Mission Team
June 18-21 the Union Baptist Youth Group came over to Covington to help us put on a Fun in the Son. They did a wonderful job each night sharing God's Love with each of the kids and youth in attendance. There were 23 kids on Monday, 41 on Tuesday, 32 on Wednesday and 35 on Thursday. Their night consisted of playing at the park, singing, Bible story, craft, snacks and recreation. This is their 8th year doing Fun in the Son with us. The kids have created relationships with each of the youth that really does change their lives. Thank you Union Baptist for working with us at the MAC.

Kicks for Kids
Kicks for Kids does a great job of helping us to love on the children and youth in our programs. They provide opportunities that we could not do on our own. Once a year they have a River Run that helps to raise money for their program. I would like to invite you to join me in this event. Please let me know if you are interested and if you would like to be a part of the MAC team. It is scheduled for May 26. Registration is $15.

Christmas Giveaway
We just had a wonderful night at our Christmas Giveaway. We were blessed with a college mission team from Georgia that did an amazing job with our worship service for the families. We had wonderful volunteers help to give out the things that were given by the wonderful people, churches and businesses. It is a blessing to give. Pray that everyone who received help will remember the true meaning of Christmas. Pray that lives will be eternally changed by what they heard and experienced tonight at the giveaway.

Summer
The summer schedule has been keeping everyone busy here at the MAC. We have had Simply Dinner in June and July. We have served 362 meals so far this summer. We have reached 147 people through this ministry. Free tickets were given to us for a Red's Game so some kids got to participate in that event. We have been doing our Giving Back Projects, teaching everyone the joy of giving. We have had playground nights, art nights, and game nights for the kids. We tried to do a Half Marathon throughout the summer, but this event has not been desired by the community (live and learn). We have had a Community Wide Picnic across the street from the MAC and had a great turn out for that. Youth Night has been a lot of fun this summer - great to connect with the youth. One of the youth accepted Christ over Facebook one day while I was chatting with her - praise God. Banklick Fun in the Son just ended yesterday. We enrolled at total of 62 children during the week. Main Street Baptist Church from Alexandria came to help us put it on and they did a wonderful job. So much more is still on the agenda: Peaselburg Fun in the Son is next week (July 18-21). South Side Baptist Church's VBS is July 25-29. The week of August 1st we have 3 big things going on: Kicks for Kids Basketball Camp, Holman Street Fun in the Son with Union Baptist Church, and Gobel Fun in the Son with Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Inner City Day Camp is August 11-12 at Piner Baptist Church. Lots more as well. Be sure to look at our calendar. We would love for you to help us out - call if you have questions.

Inner City Lock-In
30 kids and 10 youth will be joining us tonight for our annual inner city lock-in. We are looking forward to a great night filled with games, food, bible time, crafts, gym time, an auction, a movie...so much more - and a little bit of sleep. Please pray that the night goes well. Also pray that lives are changed. Thanks.

Giving Back During the Christmas Season
Kids from the MAC went to 2 different nursing homes during the month of December to help the senior adults to have a good time and to give a little Christmas love. At both locations we played bingo withe the residents and had some fun prizes for them to take home. The kids were given some simple instructions: be nice, help the residents with playing the games and do not take anything for yourself. Our goal with our Giving Back Projects is to teach children the joy of giving. The kids are starting to understand this giving back idea, but some of the residents did not understand the process. One lady, at the Covington Ladies Home, just cried because of how blessed she was by one of our boys. She wanted so bad to send him home with a doll, but I explained the concept of what we are teaching. I then told her that he loved hugs (he looked at me with a questioning face), but he proceeded to give her a big hug and had a big smile at the end.
The Doll Lady
Many people know Ms. Beach as the Doll Lady in her community. She has given thousands upon thousands of dolls to children in need all over the world. South Side Baptist Church and the Moore Activity Center has been a recipient of this ministry for many years. Ms. Beach is 94 years old this year. She apologized to me that she did not have more dolls to share with us. She truly is an amazing woman that simply wants God to use her for as long as He can. I pray that I can be giving like she is when I am 94 years old (Amy Wilhelmus).
Thanksgiving and Christmas Give Aways
The Thanksgiving and Christmas Give Aways went great. Individuals, families, churches, groups and organizations stepped up to help us meet needs in Covington. I would like to thank everyone that took part in helping us to meet these needs. I love to watch how God pulls His people together to do His work.
